The Medical Director and Medical Officer-in-Charge of AMC is Dr. David Acheampong Owusu-Ansah. With over 23 years of post-qualification work experience, he has been holding this position since 2000. Prior to that, he served as Medical Officer at AMC for two years (1998–2000).

As the Medical Director in Charge, Dr. Owusu-Ansah provides clinical oversight for the facility’s medical programmes and services, including responsibilities for the specialists, medical officers, and all the diagnostic personnel.

Prior to joining AMC, he was a houseman at the Department of Internal Medicine and Surgery, Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (1996–1997), having undertaken pre-housemanship at the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Internal Medicine, Paediatrics and Surgery, all at the KATH. David had earlier worked as a librarian (National Service) at the Ashanti Regional Administration (1987–1988).

He holds an MD Physician from the Saint Petersburg State Academy of Medicine, Russia (1995). He has attended several conferences and training workshops in the last five years, including the 5th National HIV and AIDS prevention, treatment, care, and support review meeting in Koforidua; the IMAI/ART Training Workshop in Koforidua; training on the new anti-malaria drug policy and intermittent preventive treatment for pregnant women in Kumasi; and the management of opportunistic infections in HIV/AIDS and other related infections in Kumasi. Others are the HIV/AIDS Training Programme for Medical Doctors in Africa, Infectious Disease Institute, Kampala, Uganda; AVR Treatment Training, Pharmacies Foundation, Nairobi; and the Seminar on Clinical Management of Sickle Cell Disease, Kumasi.
